Logan Cross is the prince of the cat shifters and owes the prince of the wolf shifters, Damien, a life debt. Damien calls on this debt and explains to Logan that he, as the leader of the wolves, needs to stay and protect his territory. He requires Logan to retrieve a certain woman and bring her to him so he can mate with her and she can become his queen. She is destined to give him powers and rule over all the other wolves of the world. Logan doesn’t like the idea of having to be the wolf’s errand boy and would rather be doing other things, but he does have a debt to pay and will follow through. Damien tells him that it won’t be easy due to the fact that other wolf princes have caught word of her and will want to catch her for themselves.
Tara Stuart does not like the fact that she is destined, and ultimately being forced, to be with someone she doesn’t want to be with and will try to do anything and everything to get out of it. She knows about the shifters and wants nothing to do with them. Her family and Logan try to convince her that she has to fulfill her destiny, but they will have to take her kicking and screaming.
I absolutely loved this story. I was so unsure in the beginning of HUNTED MATE who to pull for. Did I want Tara with the noble, attractive, and dark Damien? Or should I pull for the passionate, hunky, and rugged Logan? Thomas knows how to create a setting because I could picture it in my mind and the story got me hooked. At first I thought Tara should have done what she was destined to do, but there was a moment that Tara was being yelled at by her father because she was not fulfilling her destiny and I wanted to smack her father. At that moment I was glad Tara was trying to run away from what everyone was telling her to do. Tara does have a little of the “too stupid to live syndrome,” but Thomas quickly recovers the scenes and makes things better. The chemistry between Tara and Logan is intense and I loved the passion between them. The way they meet is creative and humorous. I could see the sparks fly before they did and the warmth that Logan gives Tara; I wish I could put it in my pocket and take it out when I needed it. There is not a lot of sex scenes, which is fine by me, because when Thomas does a sex scene the sensuality is hot. More readers need to know who Kari Thomas is because she has talent--she is an awesome writer and I hope to see more paranormal stories from her.
